Jake braves the snow and he's not Norwegian

Being a lucky owner of two superb and beautiful Norwegian Forest cats, I have always prayed for a snowy day in North Cambridgeshire to arrive. Three years on and we finally got a snowy day. Just shy of the festive season Peterborough was treated to some of the white stuff from the sky overnight one Saturday just two weeks before the bearded fat man in red delivered. So with a planned photoshoot due later in the morning I was armed with both cameras in my back garden hoping to capture some epic photos as our so called snow cats jumped about and frolic in the quarter a foot of snow.

So I thought. With the snow still falling and my finger poised on the shutter button, the back door was flung open..........NOTHING.......I mean NOTHING. Both cats shuddered to a grinding halt as they approached with pace the entry into the garden. With more than a little prompting both of them reluctantly ran out into the never before seen surrounding. Oliver lasted approximately thirty, or was it forty seconds before returning to the centrally heated house. Rosie was a little braver. She lasted a full minute, before once again retreating to her home comforts. She did have a second go, before meowing in a very load manner to be let back in.

So no photos of the little tinkers, who decided not to make use of their snow shoes. Off to the photoshoot then. just the small matter of a two mile drive on the snowy road to Jake's house. Being a Sunday there was little or no chance of any gritting lorries having cleared any snow and so it was a slow drive to the location. I was expecting it to be a wet play, I remember those days at school, the teachers hated them. Anyway it wasn't as Jake and his parents, in particular Jake were more than happy to venture outside, into the garden at least. Not only did Jake have a nice woolly natural coat he had a lovely jacket to wear. Perhaps that is where I went wrong with my snow cats, they needed jackets, to add to their double fur ones. Mind you Jake's coat was nothing in comparison to his mum's protection from the weather, boots and a big warm coat. I think Jake was ok outside, but us humans were tempted by the now boiling kettle to return indoors for a beverage.

Jake's Mum and Dad wanted some photos of themselves with Jake to make Christmas cards, Good job I brought my Christmas background with me. Pity I had not got any lights (Now there was a good idea for Christmas) Enough light was available however and a successful Christmas photoshoot went ahead. Jake was not as keen as he was with the snow, but fun was had by all before Jake retired to the sofa for a well earned nap, Its hard work being a model.
